can we all just agree that audra is a veritable repository of funny things people say?

"she wasn't disturbing to look at, in any way."

seriously, audra, where do you come up with these things?

can we all just agree that arm warmers are totally exciting?

i shall wear them tomorrow. yes.

can we all just agree that the return of self-indulgent bruise blogging is long overdue?

with special thanks to bruise photographer and nerve damage speculation expert brother bear. who should come back and visit as soon as possible. (seriously dude, it was fantastic.) also, in case you were curious, they're getting darker and darker by the day. and the swelling's going down too.

update: it should be noted that this is TEN WHOLE DAYS after the crash!

can we all just agree that footnotes are totally fabulous?

oh my gosh, i had forgotten how much i love love love a footnote!1 i haven't really used them much2 since i finished my thesis awhile ago, but i'm writing an article right now and using them and i am happy as a clam!3 seriously!

______________
1 a lot, in case you hadn't picked that up yet.
2 okay, i have used them a little bit. but not a lot.
3 even though i can't figure out how to make the numbers above superscript. well, okay, i probably could, but i really need to just write this article instead, unfortunately.

can we all just agree that beyonce's "irreplaceable" is a great song, ¿pero que es mejor en español?

can we all just agree that paying bills can be kind of nice sometimes?

because, and only because, if you play your cards right, you can put two stickers on every envelope! hooray for self-adhesive stamps and free sticky address labels! yes.

can we all just agree that this is a good idea?

"i'm just done with crazy people." -jq

can we all just agree that bicycle crashes aren't very cool?

i totally wiped out tonight turning left through a major intersection. i was wearing a helmet, gloves, and my brand new kneewarmers, and i was really glad about all of those. i skinned my hand, bloodied my knees, banged my chin (i'm going to have the kind of facial bruising that makes strangers wonder if i am a victim of relationship violence), and hit my head real good. my bike is fine, but it and i both flew a bit. but i was with a good friend, and then another good friend came to get us in his station wagon and then fed us dinner. but it was still kind of lame.

when i took off my kneewarmers (which somehow miraculously didn't tear even though my knees did), there was a bunch of skin stuck to one of them! gross!

can we all just agree that knee warmers are spectacular?

can we all just agree that the brother is hilarious?

for a lot of reasons, but most recently because he said this,

"oh, it's robber-barontastic!"

that is all.

can we all just agree that labels are kind of exciting?

especially if you nerdily enjoy categorizing things, but can we further agree that it's a real bummer that you can't use exclamation points? because i really want to make a label that says "food!"

so, if you would, please try to imagine that the posts labeled "food" actually read "food!" thank you.

can we all just agree that this is an amusing spam title?

it is from "beaver," and the title is "goddamned forklift."

that is all.

Thursday, January 04, 2007

can we all just agree that having to list the contents of packages you're mailing overseas is kind of a bummer?

because then, if the recipient isn't careful, he or she can find out what you're sending before they open it up. major bummer!

can we all just agree that it's rad to realize that you can fit into kids' shoes?

yeah! i totally can!

can we all just agree that this is an excellent set of lyrics?

so the eels released a demo preview of a song entitled "somebody loves you" awhile ago, and it's a pretty solid song. here is one of my favorite parts*:

"this nagging malaise / is more than a phase
it feels like a job / but no boss ever pays
you to lay there / and think how you'll die
then tears start to well in your eye."

i hope that you get a chance to listen to this song. you might want to go here to download the free mp3. i would also recommend downloading "i'm going to stop pretending that i didn't break your heart" too; it's pretty phenomenal. and i will write about it another day.

*okay, perhaps the fourth line is a little less fantastic (maybe a little junior high OMG I MUST RHYME THIS!), but the other three are so rad that they more than make up for it. also, i briefly contemplated leaving it out, but since i was singing it in my mind while writing it, it just seemed dishonest to leave it out. but seriously, this man is a brilliant songwriter and musician. and he puts on a fantastic live show. please try to go see the eels if you get the chance. you won't regret it. and if you do, you can send me an email and let me know.

goodnight!
