can we all just agree that it's kind of surprising to find a possum in your yard?

there it was, just hangin out, chillaxin (thanks, paws!)...not at all perturbed by the presence of audra and me. odd.

Yeah. I'm still a little afraid of that long-tailed guy. He was WAY too calm to be your average possum. But I'm glad to know, as evidenced by the existence of your post, that he didn't hurt/bite/attack you.;)

no, in fact it took off before the germans could see it, much to their disappointment. there was a lot of debate over whether or not it was in fact a rat, after i found some possum pix online, but they finally concluded that it was, in fact, a separate animal. and they were sad to have missed it. because they thought it was cute.

possums are the australian ones. opossums are the north american dudes. i found this out a couple of years ago when a poor opossum got stuck in the back entrance of my old house and was not discovered for a long, long time. i did not know we even had opossums in canada, let alone in the city, but i looked it up and those little guys are everywhere. if yours comes back, you should take a picture. also, name it. then he might be less scary.

huh, i always thought "possum" and "opossum" were interchangeable. i mostly thought it was scary because it was so unconcerned by the presence of people. opossums don't really scare me, but potentially rabid ones do.
